Webinar Recap: Extreme Volatility and Market Movement
I led a discussion on this crazy market, which is NOT easy to trade. We are finding opportunities, but a volatile market requires a new and very disciplined approach. I discussed some of the strategies we are using in the Explosive Options service.
This week’s action was one for the record books. I’m not talking about the back-to-back “markets in turmoil” specials on CNBC; the reason for those shows was the extreme volatility and market movements.
In the webinar, we discussed how and why these particular moves were occurring and what we could expect going forward. In my estimation, the volatility is not over, and while the markets seemed to go haywire on Monday with far too many sells, they seemed to correct and come back strong the next few days. This does not inspire confidence in markets, and no doubt will encounter even more skepticism from the sidelines.
I also took a look at some strategies, including when NOT to sell premium. While we normally would look for conditions like rising volatility to capture the “juice,” in this case it may not work due to the fact charts are so whacked out. I answered some questions and analyzed some charts at the end of the session.
This Week’s Market Action
What a week! Monday was one of the worst trading days on record, Tuesday brought an interest rate cut in China, the VIX is out of control (with volatility hitting record high levels – see our chart of the week), futures are now in backwardation and oscillators are in extreme territory.
