Options Trading Webinar: How to Trade During Earnings Season
A few weeks after the end of a quarter, publicly traded companies issue quarterly earnings reports. Traders call this earnings season, and most of us have a love-hate relationship with it. Love, because you have the chance to uncover great opportunities and make some great trades. Hate, because you have to keep an eagle eye on the action for two weeks straight.
This week, companies are releasing their 3rd quarter earnings reports, so this is an opportune time to share strategies on how to trade during earnings season. In this week’s options trading webinar, we talked about how to find the best trade ideas during earnings season and when I favor volatility trades such as strangles or straddles. The market is not too forgiving these days, so we have to be smart. We also covered the recent market action, where things may be headed and some resistance ahead.
This Week’s Market Action
In short, the markets have not been behaving as expected. After such a strong move higher over the past two weeks, everyone thought the action would really pick up, but we have not seen a significant market selloff. The VIX has come down sharply, and it’s now clear that investors and traders panicked over fear of rising interest rates. That threat is off the table for now; “risk on” is the name of the game.
