Options Trading Webinar: Carley Garner on Commodities, Currencies and Charts
We welcomed Carley Garner to our weekly webinar series and talked about everything from commodities and currencies to charts and The Fed. Carley is an experienced futures and options broker and a prolific author and world-class educator. Her books include “Currency Trading in the FOREX and Futures Markets”, “A Trader’s First Book on Commodities” and “Commodity Options.”
We kicked off our conversation talking about crude oil. Because Carley is an experienced trader who has some good insight on the the flow of trade, she provided us with some great insights on where this commodity may be headed. We also talked about gold, the yellow metal that has fallen on hard times. We also looked ahead to February, a traditionally strong month. Given the beating that markets have taken over the last few weeks, we could see a nice run higher in equity markets next month.

This Week’s Market Action
As expected, The Fed did not touch interest rates this week. It is happy to step aside for now until the data gets really bad – let’s hope The Fed isn’t too late. Stocks remain in a downtrend and charts continue to point at bearish conditions. Volatility pushed lower, puts/calls were down and oscillators are back in neutral territory.
Earnings season is in full force, and most companies are beating lowered estimates. The street is looking for negative earnings to hit once more, and it’ll only be a matter of time before the market catches up with the economy.
